THE LEAP.

On slick and bifurcating branches
squirrels traffic news and food,
shifting deftly, back and to
between the borders and the brood.

And in their autonomic progress
neurons ply a like terrain,
harvesting impressions
for the cradles of the brain,

adding novel junctions
to the fretwork of the map
the way, perhaps,
squirrel, darting,
leaps across a looming gap.
